Description
Under supervision of the Mission Bay City or County Fire Department, perform a variety of duties related to the protection of life and property under emergency and hazardous conditions. Responsible for fire suppression, fire prevention, rescue, Basic and/or Advanced Life Support care, public education, salvage and overhaul. Responds to emergency calls that require basic and/or advanced emergency medical services; performs related duties as assigned.

Ideal Duties
This classification is in the sworn public safety officer series. The Firefighter Paramedic is required to provide advanced life support medical care and treatment; fire suppression or other assistance as required. This class is distinguished from the higher level officer class of Lieutenant, Officer or Captain of Fire of the latter first and second-line supervisors. This class is distinguished from the lower level class of Firefighter-EMT in that the Firefighter Paramedic is licensed for and required to provide Advanced Life Support and Emergency medical services as a condition of employment. This class receives supervision from the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Supervisor.
Perform duties related to the protection of life and property under emergency and hazardous conditions; respond to emergency calls and provide advanced emergency medical services, fire suppression, prevention, rescue, salvage and overhaul. May serve in higher level classifications on a relief basis.

-Must possess a valid Class C California driver's license w/a satisfactory driving record.

Benefits
Retirement Cal:
2.87% at retirement age prior to age 55
3.00% at retirement age age 56+
Deferred Compensation:
Employees may contribute up to $17,000 per year on a pre-tax basis. 
Medical Plans:
Kaiser HMO or Health Net POS/HMO
Dental Plans:
Covers up to 90% of all dental charges, maximum $3,000.00 per person per year. Orthodontic lifetime maximum $3,000.00.
Life Insurance: 
Minimum of $50,250.00 paid by the City. Employees can purchase a maximum of up to $300,000.00.
Sick Leave:
1.5 days paid per month, 2.0 days after 10 years of service.
Vacation:
2 Weeks paid Vacation after 2 Years of Service. + or - by hours on duty. Effective 10/27/07
Holidays:
15+1 paid holidays, maximum 12 hours per day. 1 Personal holiday; approved by Supervisor.
Uniform Allowance:
$1,000.00 Annually
Premium Pay
13.0% for Paramedics, 5.0% for Reserve Paramedics/5.0% for HazMat Specialist
